Rohde & Schwarz has partnered with ELT Group to deliver components for electronic warfare (EW) systems in support of German and Polish Navy frigate projects.
The systems will be installed on Germany’s F124 class frigates and Poland’s new Miecznick class multirole frigates.
This collaboration leverages ELT Group’s ability to meet the technical and commercial criteria set by Rohde & Schwarz.
The Sachsen Class (F124) frigates, Germany’s air defence ships, are constructed by ARGE F124, a consortium comprising Blohm + Voss, Howaldtwerke-Deutsche Werft, and Thyssen Nordseewerke.
ELT Group’s involvement in supplying advanced solutions for the R-ESM and R-ECM systems is part of the broader framework of EW Systems acquisitions by Rohde & Schwarz.
ELT Group CEO and COO Domitilla Benigni said: “We are very pleased with the signing of these important contracts with Rohde & Schwarz.
“They represent a starting point to further strengthen the value proposition towards our customers, enhanced even more by our long-standing presence in Europe. We look forward to working closely to ensure its successful execution.”
In 2024, Rohde & Schwarz secured contracts to provide comprehensive systems for communications and radar electronic support measures, including countermeasures (C-ESM/R-ESM/R-ECM) from its R&S KORA product line, for three German F124 Sachsen class frigates.
In 2023, the Budget Committee of Germany’s Bundestag approved a procurement proposal valued at more than €25m ($26m) for the acquisition of additional Evolved Sea Sparrow Missiles (ESSM), intended for deployment on the F124 Sachsen-class guided missile frigates.
Additionally, the company will supply communications and radar electronic support measures (C-ESM/R-ESM) for three Polish Miecznick class multirole frigates.
These systems are designed to enhance situational awareness, bolster early warning capabilities, and improve the self-protection mechanisms of the naval vessels.
The initial vessel of the Miecznik class, designed based on the British Arrowhead 140 concept, is under construction at the PGZ shipyard in Gdynia, a state-owned facility.
The launch of this first ship is planned for 2026, with its commissioning set for 2030. The remaining two ships are expected to be delivered to the Polish Navy by 2031.
