Saab has introduced a fixed face (FF) configuration for its Sea Giraffe 4A medium to long range multi-purpose surveillance radar.
Sea Giraffe 4A FF is a fixed-panel configuration of the company’s existing and active electrically scanned array (AESA) radar family.
Saab Surface Radar Solutions head Anders Linder said: “Many naval customers require surveillance radars in a fixed faced configuration, primarily for their principal surface combatants.
“With the new Sea Giraffe 4A Fixed Face configuration, we complement our existing offer to meet these requirements.
“Our aim is to ensure a successful outcome of any mission.”
The Sea Giraffe 4A radar belongs to Saab’s family of rotating, full S-band AESA radar systems and provides a combination of air surveillance, air defence, detection, classification, warning and weapon locating capabilities in a single, low-footprint unit.

By GlobalDataSea Giraffe 4A FF complements the company’s existing naval radar portfolio with a sensor designed specifically to further enhance surveillance capabilities on-board major surface combatants worldwide.
The sensor’s low top weight provides added flexibility, allowing the radar to be installed on several new naval platforms.
In addition, the Sea Giraffe 4A radar is able to scan the search volume up to 70° with 60rpm, as well as delivering an unparalleled 3D target update rate along with high altitude coverage and monopulse accuracy.
The radar can simultaneously detect small fast-moving targets at all altitudes and in severely cluttered locations.
The surface channel offer high probability of detecting very small targets in close proximity to the surface.
Furthermore, the radar provides extensive electronic counter-counter measure (ECCM) features in order to address the complex electronic countermeasure (ECM) environment.
