The US Marine Corps (USMC) has awarded a contract modification to Saab within the Force-on-Force Training Systems – Next (FoFTS-Next) programme.

The value of the contract modification is around $122m, with $54m booked last year. It comes with options, which take the value of the total contract to up to $248m.

In June 2021, Saab received a single award task order contract (SATOC) worth around $127.9m.

The FoFTS-Next programme will provide training tools required to prepare US marines for any contingency or crisis.

Under the programme, Saab will supply Marine Corps Training Instrumentation Systems (MCTIS) equipment for up to ten battalion training sets.

A next generation live training system, MCTIS will replace the USMC’s Instrumentation and Tactical Engagement Simulation System (ITESS) equipment.

According to Saab, the expeditionary MCTIS is a land-based live training capability which is interoperable with the land forces training.

Saab US president and CEO Erik Smith said: “The deployable and expeditionary MCTIS capability is an advanced training solution that will ensure Marines train and learn in the most realistic environment.

“The system will enhance marines’ performance and survivability on the battlefield by developing and reinforcing proper tactics, techniques, and procedures.

“Saab is proud to be the US Marine Corps training partner for the next generation of marine warfighters.”

The contract will see the company provide support related to maintenance, logistics and training exercise.

In addition, Saab will create support operations at different installations of the USMC.
