Science Applications International (SAIC) has secured a $60m contract from the US Navy to provide mission engineering support for the US Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA).
Under the cost-plus-fixed-fee and firm-fixed-price contract, SAIC will continue to provide support by testing heavyweight and lightweight torpedoes.
The single-award contract will support the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport. It has a one-year base period of performance with four option years.
The company will handle test and data collection for MK 48 heavyweight Torpedoes and MK 54 and MK 46 Lightweight torpedoes.
Defense Systems Group executive vice-president and general manager Jim Scanlon said: “For more than 13 years, SAIC has supported the testing of approximately 150 torpedoes as part of the engineering, technical, and management services we provide to the NUWC’s Propulsion Test Facility in Newport, Rhode Island.
“We look forward to continuing to support NUWC with testing of torpedoes and torpedo components over the next five years.”

The company will also support by preparing torpedoes for testing at off-site test ranges and locations.
It will support the maintenance, upgrade and also provide operational support for the assembly of test torpedo.
SAIC will also conduct system and subsystem testing, data reduction, test equipment operation, and data and configuration management.
SAIC is one of 40 companies that secured the multiple award, indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract from the US NAVSEA with a ceiling value of $982m.
