Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., an aerospace company based in Stratford, Connecticut, has been awarded a $21.8m contract modification by the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division.
The modification exercises an option to procure a CH53K containerized flight training device and associated technical data in support of the CH-53K Phase II training system efforts. Based on the low-rate initial production Lot 4 configuration, the device will enhance pilot training capabilities. The completion of the project is expected by September 2025.
The flight training device is a vital component of the CH-53K Phase II training system, aimed at providing advanced training capabilities for pilots. By simulating real-world flight scenarios, the device will enable pilots to refine their skills and prepare for complex missions. This acquisition marks a step in enhancing the training curriculum for the Sikorsky CH-53K program.
Israel also bought 20 of the CH-53K from Sikorsky in 2021. Last year, Sikorsky delivered two heavy-lift CH-53K helicopters to add to the seven already operational within the US Marine Corps.
The CH-53K will support the Marine Air-Ground Task Force, providing unparalleled lift capabilities in terms of operational altitudes and weight lift capacities. The CH-53K variant can lift three times that of its predecessor, the CH-53E, according to GlobalData’s “US Defence Market 2022-2027” report.
The device will be constructed based on the Lot 4 configuration, ensuring compatibility and consistency with the aircraft’s latest advancements. Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. will carry out most of the work in Chantilly, Virginia, with additional contributions from their headquarters in Stratford, Connecticut, and their facility in Orlando, Florida.
