The US Navy has acquired Trellix Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) to upgrade security measures within the Navy Enterprise Grid and safeguard it against advanced cyber threats.
Trellix IPS is a part of a Network Detect and Response (NDR) solution, aiding large organisations in targeting complex attack campaigns, containing breaches, and addressing cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
This transition builds on a longstanding partnership between Trellix and the Navy.
The latest Trellix IPS technology employs sophisticated detection and emulation techniques, surpassing traditional pattern matching to accurately defend against elusive attacks.
It safeguards against zero-day threats, DoS/DDoS (denial-of-service), encrypted and SYN flood attacks.
It further offers real-time prevention of threats such as spyware, malware, VoIP vulnerabilities, phishing, botnets, and more.

By GlobalDataDesigned with a scalable architecture, Trellix IPS supports hybrid networks, including on-premise, virtual, and cloud environments.
This capability ensures protection for both physical and virtual settings, facilitating the Navy’s future migration of assets to the cloud while adapting to evolving threat landscapes.
The system enables coordinated detection and inline response across the entire environment, promoting operational efficiency and potentially reducing the total cost of ownership.
Trellix chief product officer Gareth Maclachlan said: “As the Navy moves toward full adoption of NDR, network defence mainstays like IPS are critical for both establishing baseline network behaviour patterns and advantage of response capabilities to remediate the threat of suspicious network traffic.
“With Trellix IPS, they have a next-generation intrusion detection and prevention system that discovers and blocks sophisticated threats across the network.”
Trellix IPS is the first enterprise technology solution to function under the Government Owned, Government Operated, Contractor Supported (GoGoCS) model.
The US Department of Defense’s Fiscal Year 2025 Budget Request allocated $14.5bn for cyberspace operations aimed at countering and disrupting the activities of advanced and persistent cyber threats, while also advancing the shift toward a ‘Zero Trust’ cybersecurity framework.
