Ultra has won a contract award to provide S2150-C Hull-Mounted Sonar (HMS) system for the Royal Canadian Navy’s Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) programme.
The latest order follows a recent contract to provide a variable depth sonar (VDS) system for the CSC programme.
Ultra said that these subcontracts play a major role in the development of CSC’s anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capability. They take it forward from ‘the definition phase into the substantive manufacture and delivery’ of the vessels’ set of sonars.
CSC programme is part of the Royal Canadian Navy’s acquisition programme to build 15 multi-role ships. The new vessels will replace both the retired Iroquois-class destroyers and the Halifax-class frigates.
The company noted that Ultra S2150-C HMS was selected as it meets the strict technical requirements of Canada.
The technology will be transferred to Canada. It was originally designed for the UK Type 26 platform.
