The US Navy has suspended the fall 2020 Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) Cycle 2 due to coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic mitigation concerns.
Announced in NAVADMIN 193/20, this is the second consecutive fitness cycle that has been cancelled due to the virus.
Fitness testing is expected to resume in January next year.
For the 2020 cycle, sailors will be marked as ‘EXCUSED’ in the Physical Readiness Information Management System (PRIMS).

By GlobalDataNo official entries will be made by command fitness leaders for the official Navy PFA Cycle 2020. The Physical Readiness Program (PRP) office is expected to manage the updates.
US Navy uniformed personnel officer vice admiral John Nowell Jr said: “The Covid-19 situation requires that we continue to minimise risk to personnel, therefore all personnel will be ‘EXCUSED’ from participation in Navy PFA Cycle 2, 2020.
“Suspension includes both the official Body Composition Assessment and Physical Readiness Test components of the PFA.”
At command level, the suspension extends to other group physical training, including the fitness enhancement programmes.
Exceptions to the suspension are ‘recruit training or if unit mission training requires such physical training sessions’.
However, sailors who are required to regain advancement and retention eligibility will be allowed to participate in mock PFA. It will be conducted as per OPNAV Instruction 6110.1J.
Sailors are recommended to use the Navy Operational Fitness and Fueling five-week conditioning plan.
The plan, developed by Navy Installations Command’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation Fitness Program, will help maintain navy physical fitness standards.
During the next cycle, plank will replace the curl-up, while the rowing machine will be made optional.
Separate guidance on the implementation of the new events will be issued in September.
