The US Navy has achieved Aegis Light Off (ALO) on its first Flight III Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, the future USS Jack H Lucas (DDG 125).
This ALO was achieved in collaboration with Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division, Raytheon Missiles & Defense, and Lockheed Martin.
The development paves the way for the initiation of a comprehensive testing and operation of the vessel’s combat systems.
It will eventually lead to the Builder’s Trials and Acceptance Trials prior to the ship’s delivery to the fleet.
Program Executive Office (PEO) Ships, DDG 51 class programme manager, captain Seth Miller said: “Achieving ALO is a significant accomplishment as construction, activation, and test of the Flight III upgrade continues.
“DDG 125 is bringing game changing technology to the fleet and beginning to integrate and test critical components is key to ensuring successful demonstration of the ship’s systems.”

By GlobalDataThe future Jack H Lucas was launched at HII Ingalls Shipbuilding division on 4 June last year.
The Flight III upgrade focuses on the AN/SPY-6(V)1 Air and Missile Defense Radar.
As part of the modernisation, the electrical power and cooling capacity will be improved, along with the related renewal work that will increase the fleet’s warfighting capability.
At present, HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division is building the future Lenah Sutcliffe Higbee (DDG 123), Ted Stevens (DDG 128), Jeremiah Denton (DDG 129), and George M Neal (DDG 131).
HII recently launched the amphibious transport dock Richard M McCool Jr (LPD 29) for the US Navy.
