The US Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78) has conducted bilateral training with the Romanian navy and airforce.
The coordinated tactical manoeuvring exercises were carried out in the Black Sea.
Henry J Kaiser-class underway replenishment oiler USNS Laramie (T-AO-203) also participated in the training, alongside Romanian Navy frigate ROS Marasesti and Romanian Air Force F-16 fighter jets.
US Embassy Romania d’Affaires Chargé David Muniz said: “We are proud to train and operate alongside our Romanian allies to support maritime security in the Black Sea and beyond.
“This is one of several joint exercises we will conduct this year, highlighting both the interoperability of Nato maritime forces, and the steadfast commitment of Romania as a true friend and partner to the United States.”
Porter is based in Spain along with three other US Navy destroyers. The Forward-Deployed Naval Forces-Europe ships are assigned to Commander, Task Force 65 in support of Nato’s Integrated Air Missile Defense (IAMD) architecture.

By GlobalDataUSS Porter is deployed to the US 6th Fleet area of operations and is carrying out its ninth patrol mission.
Headquartered in Italy, the US 6th Fleet conducts operations with allied and interagency partners.
Porter commanding officer commander Thomas Ralston said: “We conducted a great bilateral training at sea with the Romanian navy, strengthening our combined readiness and naval capability.
“Engagements and exercises with our partners and allies demonstrate high-level cooperation and commitment to ensure regional stability.”
Last June, USS Porter conducted a passing exercise with Tunisian naval counterparts in the Mediterranean Sea.
