BlueHalo has secured a contract by the Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC) for uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) electronic warfare (EW) sensor systems.

This $49.9m contract, which involves a five-year commitment, mandates BlueHalo to supply the US Navy and the US Special Operations Command hardware, materials, and components, along with engineering services.

It also encompasses the integration and operational support for Modular Payload compliant EW sensors used on various UAS.

The contract outlines BlueHalo's responsibilities to design, enhance, test, deliver, and assess complex sensor systems, ensuring their effective integration into different UAS platforms.

BlueHalo chief growth officer James Batt said: “BlueHalo continues to deliver inspired engineering and tactical solutions to help our Nation stay ahead of global threats.

“NIWC Pacific has relied on our EW sensors to support mission success for more than 15 years. This contract underlines the confidence customers have in BlueHalo to field the very best capabilities when it matters most.”

This initiative is part of NIWC Pacific's broader strategy to maintain sensor functionality through timely repairs and replacements, as well as to provide training for operators on these systems.

The sensors, developed under the principles of a modular open system approach and Sensor Open Systems Architecture, have been successfully incorporated into several programmes.

These include the Group 3 UAS, the Special Operations Command's multi-mission tactical UAS, and the mid-endurance UAS, all of which support the Joint Threat Warning System Program Office.

BlueHalo Products and Space Systems Portfolio president Mary Clum said: “EW sensor integrations can be incredibly complex–spanning multiple airframes, information infrastructures, and domains to meet multiple mission needs.

“With our technical expertise and superior EW systems, BlueHalo provides customers with the modularity, scalability, and interoperability necessary to support a variety of platforms and configurations.”
