Designed for launch through a torpedo tube, the CM-708UNA is capable of being integrated with a range of submarines for targeting medium-to-large vessels and inshore targets.
It also integrates a strap-down inertial navigation system and satellite navigation for mid-course guidance, as well as a high-precision radar seeker and digital control for terminal homing.
Powered by a turbo engine and solid rocket booster, the missile has a range of 128km.
Submarines used by the Chinese Navy already integrate Ying Ji (C-801) submarine-launched anti-ship missiles, which offer a 42km range. They are also exported to Pakistan.
However, it is yet to be confirmed whether the CM-708UNA is a new missile or a redesigned version of the existing YJ family.
The event also involved the launch of the FK-3 surface-to-air missile (SAM) defence system, which offers an operational range of 50km to 100km, in addition to a short-range missile, the PL-9C surface-to-air system, offering a range between 400m and 8,000m.
