Deployment of the system will be carried out jointly by AtHoc and HP to protect 225,000 active duty Marines and civilians at all USMC locations, including bases, camps, depots and stations worldwide.
The USMC will use the AtHoc system to boost the existing IP network for a unified, multimodal private-cloud mass notification solution.
The EMNS will provide alerts and associated emergency communications to all personnel across smartphones, mobile devices and desktops, as well as laptops and landline phones.
AtHoc president and CEO Guy Miasnik said that the USMC has joined other defence and homeland security agencies by selecting the system to meet its enterprise-wide emergency communication requirements.
"Furthermore, the USMC’s deployment strengthens the DoD’s overall readiness to meet the mass notification system requirements laid out by the Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) for full operational compliance by the January 2014 deadline," Miasnik added.
In order to support multisite organisations, the system uses secure private cloud architecture to provide substantial efficiencies in implementation, maintenance and training needed for alerting each individual group and location.
Currently, more than two million federal and military personnel from the US Navy, US Marine Corps, US Air Force, US Army Materiel Command, US Department of Veterans and US Coast Guard use AtHoc systems.
The system is also in use with other agencies, including Pentagon (PFPA), the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA), the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and Customs Border Protection.
