The US Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Weapon Systems Support (WSS) has awarded a follow-on contract to Honeywell for performance based logistics (PBL) and maintenance support for its aircraft fleet.
The five-year $181m moderation follow-on contract will continue to provide the navy with additional efficiencies and cost-savings.
Under the contract, Honeywell will provide logistics support for auxiliary power units (APUs) for Boeing-developed F/A-18 Hornet A-G including F/A-18 Australian F/G models, Lockheed-designed P-3 Orion aircraft and Northrop Grumman-built C-2 Greyhound aircraft.
The company will also provide APUs for F/A-18 main fuel controls (MFC) and the P-3 engine-driven compressor (EDC).
Honeywell Aerospace Defense and Space Defense Americas aftermarket vice president Brian Sill said: "With this new contract, we will continue to provide the navy with the same experience it has enjoyed over the previous decade and continue to help lower the overall cost of sustainment of these aircraft fleets."
Since 2000, Honeywell has supported multiple products including APUs through the PBL programme under public-private partnership (P3) with the depot workforce at the US Navy’s Fleet Readiness Center-East at Cherry Point in North Carolina and FRC-Southeast Jacksonville, Florida, US.
The PBL programme has benefitted military operators with greater on-time delivery of products to the field, increased time on wing for all products, with improved overall platform availability, reliability and service implementation.
As well as eliminating intermediate-level aircraft maintenance tasks, the programme developed new component repairs and sharing of commercial repair practices, while enhancing depot productivity and reducing consumption of new material.
The company has also enhanced materials management processes and reduction of on-hand Defense Logistics Agency inventory by providing on-site technical and materials management support.
