The Royal Danish Navy’s three new Iver Huitfeldt-Class frigates, Iver Huitfeldt (F361), Peter Willemoes (F362) and Niels Juel (F363), have been equipped with Terma’s mission-critical solutions.
Terma’s solutions, that have been delivered and installed on all the frigates, include the Scanter 6000 radar, the advanced C-Flex command and control system, including the advanced anti-air warfare (AAW) air defence system and the decoy self-protection system soft kill weapon system (SKWS).
The Scanter 6000 radar will help the frigates to carry out small target detection, surface surveillance and monitoring of low airspace missions under all weather conditions.
Offering complete situational awareness and platform control based on platform sensors, effectors and data links, the advanced C-Flex integrates several defence systems equipped onboard the frigates, including AAW air defence system and the SKWS.
Anticipated to form the core of the Danish Navy’s operational capabilities for the next 30-40 years, the frigates are yet to reach operational capability. Built by Odense Steel Shipyard, the Ivar Huitfeldt-Class frigates are scheduled to enter service between 2012 and 2013.
Designed to reduce radar signature, infrared radiation, underwater noise and magnetic signature, the seven-deck monohull design of the frigates feature 15 watertight sections, a helicopter deck and hangar to support medium-sized helicopters as well as larger and heavier helicopters of up to 20t.
Weaponry includes Lockheed Martin mk41 multimissile vertical launch system (VLS) for the evolved Sea Sparrow missile (ESSM), SM-2 IIIA missile, an Oto Melara 76mm Super Rapid gun, the Oerlikon Millennium 35mm naval gun system and a 12.7mm machine gun.
