According to Mikros president and CEO Tom Meaney, the additional task orders were awarded as part of the existing $26m multi-year contract with the Naval Surface Warfare Center at Crane Indiana, US.
Awarded in March 2010, the five-year contract also included future enhancements of the ADEPT product line, expected to provide wide-ranging applicability to other navy radars and electronic systems.
"The navy continues to view our technology as an important tool for improving the readiness of various electronic systems, including equipment associated with the navy’s ballistic missile defence programme," Meaney added.
The ADEPT is a lightweight ruggedised configurable, modular test set, which automates and accelerates a range of preventive and corrective maintenance activities for radars such as the SPY-1 radar and other electronic systems used on navy ships.
Developed as part of a small business innovation research (SBIR)-funded project, ADEPT also provides near real-time display of shipboard equipment performance parameters to subject matter experts ashore.
Under the latest $2.7m contract, the Adept units will be delivered to the navy for installation onto its fleet of Aegis cruisers and destroyers in early 2013.
Meaney said that more than 50 destroyers, cruisers, and littoral combat ships would be equipped with ADEPT onboard.
