The Royal Danish Navy has christened the third and final Iver Huitfeldt-class frigate, Niels Juel (F363), at the Odense Steel Shipyard, Denmark.

The 138.9m-long frigate will provide the Danish Navy with the capability to conduct a variety of national and international defence and security missions.

The frigate has been equipped with Terma’s C-Flex command and control system, Scanter 6000 helicopter approach and surveillance radar as well as the soft kill weapon system (SKWS) decoy system.

The modern systems and hardware allow for time-critical decision-making, self-defence, simultaneous large and small target detection, and provide helicopter guidance.

The frigate, along with Iver Huitfeldt (F361) and Peter Willemoes (F362), will enter service with the navy in 2012 and 2013.
