The MiG-29K fighters, which will operate from the INS Vikramaditya aircraft carrier, are being prepared for sea trials in Russia.
Signed in 2004, the $1.5bn contract includes the delivery of 12 single-seat MiG-29Ks and four two-seat MiG-29KUBs for the Indian Navy.
The Indian Navy also awarded a further $1.5bn contract to MiG RAC to supply 29 additional MiG-29K carrier-based fighter jets, which will be delivered from 2012.
