Schiebel has partnered with French Shipbuilder, DCNS to deploy its in-production Camcopter S-100 unmanned air system (UAS) onboard a new Gowind Class offshore patrol vessel (OPV), L Adroit.

The OPV, being built for the French Navy, was launched in May this year and is the first vessel to be designed to carry a UAS.

The S-100 has already successfully demonstrated its maritime capabilities on six different classes of vessel in a variety of challenging conditions.

The UAS will begin its trials later in 2011 with the OPV before being handed over to the French Navy at the end of the year.

The ship will be primarily used to conduct maritime surveillance and reconnaissance missions as well as anti-piracy and anti smuggling operations.
