According to the RFI, armament majors will submit their initial offers for construction of the submarines by the end of September 2010.
Under P-75I, two submarines will be imported from the foreign collaborator’s shipyard, three will be constructed at Mazagon Docks (MDL) in Mumbai, and the sixth at Hindustan Shipyard Ltd (HSL) in Visakhapatnam.
The foreign collaborator has to specify the air-independent propulsion (AIP) being offered for the project, the RFI said.
MDL is building six French Scorpene submarines under P-75I, valued at Rs235bn ($5bn), according to the Times of India.
The naval project will overtake the Rs420bn ($9bn) project to procure 126 multirole fighters for Indian Air Force, which is in its final selection phase.
