Curtiss-Wright has been awarded a follow-on contract to supply small form factor network router and switch modules to the US Marine Corps (USMC).
The contract has been awarded as part of the Marine Corps Wideband Satellite-Expeditionary (MCWS-X) programme, which aims to provide highly portable expeditionary network communications technology. According to the USMC, the MCWS-X is a man-portable satellite communications terminal used for providing resiliency to its warfighters.
The contract will be executed by Curtiss-Wright’s Defense Solutions division, which operates under the company’s Defense Electronics segment.
The company will work to deliver a Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) standard baseband system to the USMC to support efforts to modernise their communications capability.
The associated products and modules included under this contract will be shipped and delivered to the USMC from the company’s Defense Solutions facility in Portland, Oregon, US.

This multiband, multi-waveform and super-high frequency system allows the country’s marines to communicate with each other during direct contested operations.
The service said that the MCWS-X can be set up in less than 15 minutes, allowing marines on land to connect several satellite communication frequencies quickly and securely.
