Montreal, June 10, 2004 – (NYSE: CGT; TSX: CAE) – When Royal Caribbean Cruise’s Ultra Voyager sets sail in 2006, it will be the world’s biggest passenger ship and it will have CAE Valmarine’s DamaticTM ship automation systems aboard.
CAE Valmarine has signed contracts with Finnish shipbuilder Kvaerner Masa-Yards for a complete machinery automation system and a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system for the first ship in the Ultra Voyager class. CAE Valmarine had previously supplied automation systems for all five of the Voyager-class ships. The 160,000-ton, 18 stories high Ultra Voyager will be able to carry up to 3,600 passengers and a crew of 1,400.
In addition, CAE Valmarine has received its first-ever order for a dynamic position system, which will be installed in an offshore supply vessel belonging to Norway’s Ostensjo Rederi AS. A dynamic positioning system automatically allows vessels to hold their positions by means of propulsions and thrusters.
The company has also been selected to supply a machinery automation system for an ice-breaking standby and supply vessel also being built by Kvaerner Masa-Yards. The vessel is owned by Russia’s Far-Eastern Shipping company and CAE’s delivery is slated for next February.
Aker Finnyards, also of Finland, has given CAE Valmarine a contract for an integrated ship automation system for a fast attack vessel owned by the Finnish navy. The package includes machinery monitoring, controls and alarms, valves, pumps and power management. System delivery is planned for June 2005.
Italy-based Fincantieri has signed a letter of intent for an integrated automation system-to be delivered in June 2006-for a cruise liner belonging to Costa Cruise Line.
CAE Damatic automation systems enable a single crewman to have full control of all shipboard machinery and equipment, which are highly reliable, guaranteeing uninterrupted operations even in the event of system failure.
These agreements add up to more than C$6 million in new business for CAE’s marine division.
CAE is a leading provider of simulation technologies and integrated training services to airlines, aircraft manufacturers, defence forces, and marine customers worldwide. The company has annual revenues in excess of C$1 billion, with manufacturing operations and training facilities in 19 countries on four continents.
