Pivotal Power has been delivering innovative power conversion solutions for more than 25 years. Located in Nova Scotia, Canada, the company is a leader in the design and manufacture of high reliability electronic power conversion equipment in the 100W to 100kW power range such as uninterruptible power supplies, rectifiers, vehicle starters, battery chargers, embedded power supplies and degaussing power supplies.
We participate in major US and Canadian defence programs involving land, sea and air applications. Our power conversion products cover a wide range of applications including power backup systems, embedded multiple output power supplies, high power starting equipment and battery chargers. These products are used in naval combat ships, land vehicles and aircraft to power mission critical applications.
Pivotal Power is focused on strong customer relationships and has the engineering, manufacturing and program management expertise to provide on-time delivery of highly reliable, affordable products.
UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SUPPLIES
Pivotal Power supplies a broad range of fully hardened AC and DC Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units to various Canadian and US Naval vessels. We are currently delivering a new generation of UPS units for the US Navy’s new amphibious transport docking vessel, the LPD-17, to provide conditioned, back-up power for critical applications. Most units offer various mounting and communication options.
DUAL INPUT / OUTPUT UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SUPPLY (UPS)
The dual input / output Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) is designed to survive harsh operating environments and can be used for portable or hard mounted applications. Its robust enclosure is drip proof protected and designed to survive NBC chemical wash down requirements. Designed for global deployment, it will operate from an AC power source of 100V to 250V at 47Hz to 63Hz or a DC power source ranging from 18V to 31V. This wide input voltage and frequency range allows the power converter to operate from a generator in the field, 24VDC batteries or from an AC power source of international power standard.
RECTIFIERS
Pivotal Power’s DC Rectifier Power Supply (RPS) produces precise 28VDC output power to comply with the stringent system requirements of MIL-P-15736 for critical naval applications.
VEHICLE STARTERS
Pivotal Power’s DC Rectifier Power Supply (RPS) is intended for use onboard combatant vessels and utilizes the ship’s 440V, 60Hz, three-phase AC power conforming to Type 1 of MIL-STD-1399, Section 300. The RPS system provides 28VDC output power which is adjustable from 26V to 32V with a continuous current rating of 300A.
The RPS is capable of providing up to 1,000A short term starting currents typically required to start helicopters. The RPS also functions as a power conditioner of the ship service power by blocking the surges, spikes and the transients of the ship service power and maintaining stable voltage to the served equipment.
BATTERY CHARGER
The forklift truck battery charger complies with the requirements of DOC-C-24529, Amendment 6, and provides a current limited, temperature compensated, regulated voltage to float charge 24V or 36V batteries, of up to 900Ah, in a maximum of eight hours.
EMBEDDED POWER SUPPLIES
Pivotal Power’s embedded power supplies provide conditioned power and/or multiple out rail voltages to supply critical electronic systems in military applications. We have an extensive product line with multiple DC output ratings. The circuit design of the EPS is based on state-of-the-art power conversion technology using a prudent mixture of switch-mode and linear techniques aimed at maximizing power conversion density, efficiency and electromagnetic compatibility.
