BEDFORD, Nova Scotia, Canada – Pivotal Power Inc. has been awarded a contract to supply No Break Power Supplies (NBPS) to Caterpillar Defense and Federal Products. Caterpillar is supplying diesel generator sets as part of the US Navy’s FFG 7 Class Ship’s Service Generator Diesel Engine Retrofit Program. The product supplied by Pivotal is full mil spec approved and has successfully completed shock testing at a US Navy authorized testing facility.
Each diesel engine will have a Pivotal Power NBPS integrated into its electrical supply system. The NBPS will operate from the ship’s power, internal battery power or alternator power from the diesel engine. The NBPS delivers clean conditioned no-break DC power to the engine controls and the Local Control Panel (LOCOP). The NBPS supports the systems ‘Black Start’ feature, which allows the diesel engine to start and run when the ship’s power is not available.
‘The First Article Testing phase of the program was accomplished against a very aggressive schedule needed to meet the first ship’s availability for production units,’ said Dean Chamberlin, Program Manager, Caterpillar Defense & Federal Products. ‘We worked closely with Pivotal Power to resolve all hurdles that arose to ensure success.’
‘We are extremely pleased to be working with Caterpillar on this program,’ said Carlo Shimoon, Pivotal’s President & CEO. ‘This contract further strengthens our mission to establish strategic relationships with major suppliers to the defence industry.’
