Viable Power Conversion Technologies design highly reliable custom power conversion solutions for military naval customers.
We address specific performance characteristic, packaging constraint and application environment needs, as well as custom designing and packaging each unit to meet customer requirements.
Viable Power develop its custom power supply solutions from industry standard power converter modules from a broad range of well-known manufacturers. Rigorous quality inspections are part of the manufacturing phase, followed by a series of performance tests, including vibration and thermal cycling tests, which allow us to deliver quality products that will perform for many years to come.
Custom AC-DC power supply units
Viable Power design custom AC-DC power supply units with power capabilities from 20W to several KW. Our AC-DC power supplies operate from either 115V, 400Hz three-phase sources or 115V, 60Hz single-phase sources. They are designed to meet the input requirements of MIL-STD-704 or RTCA DO-160 for airborne applications and MIL-STD-1399 for shipboard applications.
Our AC-DC power supply designs include electromagnetic interference (EMI) filtering, either with a custom-designed filter or a standard original equipment manufacturer (OEM) EMI filter module, as well as bulk internal capacitance, a three-phase or single-phase rectifier, depending on the input source, and a suite of DC-DC power converter modules with output filtering.
Customisable DC power supply units
Viable Power build custom-designed DC-DC power supply units with power levels ranging from 5W to more than 2KW. Our DC-DC power supplies normally operate from 28V sources but can be designed for other input voltages.
Our DC-DC power supplies include an EMI filter module, while other input circuitry may include inrush current limiting, reverse polarity protection and bulk internal capacitance. They are designed to operate in a range of temperatures and altitudes, as well as to meet specific application requirements such as MIL-STD-1275, MIL-STD-704 and RTCA DO-160.
Power supply designs for specific requirements
Viable Power design power supply solutions for any specific requirements, including certain performance characteristics, application environments, container constraints or a combination of all parameters.
All our custom power supplies meet specific application requirements from multiple standards. Examples include MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD 1399 Section 300, MIL-STD-1275, MIL-STD-461, RTCA-DO-160, MIL-STD-810 and MIL-HDBK-217F N2.
Contract power supply manufacturing
Viable Power assist customers with low to medium volume contract manufacturing. We have the equipment and knowledge to offer a turnkey service covering all the details, from order to delivery of the final item.
About Viable Power Conversion Technologies
We have more than 25 years of experience providing ruggedised custom AC-DC and DC-DC power supply solutions and power system accessories to the military, naval, ground defence, aerospace and industrial sectors. Our expertise, experience and design approach allow us to provide fast turnaround times on design, testing and manufacturing.
Our 7,500ft² facility is equipped with wave solder and printed circuit board (PCB) washing machinery, wire cutting, stripping and crimping machines, and electronic microscope inspection tools. With our automated test equipment (ATE), we can test power supply units with up to eight output channels.
Environmental stress screening tests are performed onsite with our high ramp rate temperature cycling and humidity test chambers, which can be programmed to meet requirements including MIL-STD-810, RTCA-DO-160 and MIL-HDBK-2164A. Vibration testing is carried out with our electrodynamic vibration system.
Viable Power is certified as per the ISO 9001: 2015 and AS 9100: 2016 standards and registered with the Joint Certification Program (JCP). Our expert team is highly skilled in electronic and mechanical assembly techniques, including component and wire preparation, hand and wave soldering, crimping, cleaning, adhesive applications, potting and coating.
All work is performed to Class Three levels by our IPC-J-STD-001 trained production staff. We adhere with MIL-HDBK-454 guidelines for mechanical assembly and perform inspection to IPC-A-610 Class Three.
