Wilhelmshaven, December 16, 2024: The German Navy will adopt virtual reality-based training for the boat launching system of the frigate 125. The contract with ARGE F125, consisting of thyssenkrupp Marine Systems and NVL, will see the delivery of a VR simulator for the operation and training of a boat launching device by the end of 2026. The introduction of this training capability offers numerous advantages for the German Navy.

The virtual reality training environment developed by NVL enables the practical simulation of real scenarios without the need for extensive resources or logistical preparations. Among other things, the integration of the original control panel of the crane system into the VR environment will ensure practical training.

Another advantage of the VR simulator is the ability to practice risky scenarios safely. Errors can also be corrected quickly in virtual reality. This significantly reduces real damage or signs of wear and tear on real equipment. Trainers can also monitor all of the participants’ progress and intervene in a targeted manner to optimize the training and adapt scenarios as required.
Similar virtual reality-based training solutions developed by NVL are already being successfully used by the Royal Australian Navy.

VR Simulators can be customized to suit a customer’s specific requirements. NVL thus offers its customers the opportunity to create digital training environments for the operation and maintenance of all ship systems.
