Thales has been awarded an 18-month contract for the maintenance and support of S1850M volume search radars installed on the Royal Navy’s Type 45 Daring Class vessels.

Under the contract, Thales will provide technical help desk support, initial spares provisioning, repairs, design authority support, a yearly system check as well as monitoring and configuration management.

The S1850M radar, based on the Thales SMART-L volume search radar, is capable of automatic detection, track initiation and tracking of a large number of air targets up to a range of 400km.

Six of the seven S1850M systems are operational, with the seventh system serving as a land-based reference model.
