Under the contract, Northrop’s Sperry Marine unit will supply new-generation systems with warranty and spares to replace the existing MCAS systems.
The MCAS systems will monitor 500 sensor points on the ships’ main propulsion engines and drive systems, generators and auxiliary machinery.
Installation, testing and commissioning will be contracted after the design validation, with installations to take place between 2011 and 2015.
Sperry Marine is a major supplier of machinery automation, monitoring and alarm systems for the UK Royal Navy.
