The Chinese Navy has officially launched its largest amphibious dock landing warship, Jinggangshan, in Shanghai, according to media reports.

The 210m-long warship has a water displacement capacity of 19,000t and can carry 1,000 soldiers, helicopters, armoured fighting vehicles, boats and landing craft, China Daily has reported, quoting Jiangxi Daily.

The vessel is the second Type 071 dock landing ship built by the Shanghai-based Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard.

The first Type 071 dock landing ship, Kunlunshan, launched in December 2006 was commissioned into the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) in 2007.

China is also designing the new class of dock landing ships, known as the Yuzhou Class ships, to help in rapid mobilisation of troops during amphibious assault and also to operate in international waters.
