The IPS has been designed to allow automatic reconfiguration to the power system following damage to the power distribution system.
The system is capable of generating, distributing and converting the total ship electric power requirements for all ship loads, including propulsion, combat systems and ship services.
DDG 1000 will be the first US Navy surface combatant to use electric power for propulsion and ship services.
The navy will conduct another test in early 2012 to verify software and hardware compatibility of the DDG 1000 engineering control system software with the IPS.
