India-based defence solutions provider MKU has bagged a $35m order for armouring the 186 high-speed patrol boats procured for coastal security.

The order has been awarded to MKU by Goa Shipyard and Garden Reach Shipyard and Builders for the Indian Home Ministry.

The armour plating required must not affect the performance of the boats, used for patrolling in sensitive areas.

The recent terror attacks on Mumbai have made coastal surveillance even more important in India, which says it is modernising its high sea patrol boats.
