Sperry Marine, a division of Northrop Grumman, will be the IPMS provider to the navy’s Type 45 destroyers, starting with the first, HMS Daring.
The company has prepared to install a test and technical support facility at its UK engineering centre in New Malden that includes a complete shore-based IPMS reference set as part of this contract.
The contract also supports ongoing maintenance, repair, spares management, upgrades and training for the IPMS aboard HMS Daring.
The integrated network on the ships renders monitoring, alarm management and control for the ship’s main engines, auxiliaries and damage control functions, with the help of command-and-control workstations at important locations around the ship.
The design of the IPMS permits the vital information collected from the combat and communication systems to be captured and displayed on the workstations.
Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine vice president J Nolasco DaCunha said that the IPMS was designed to provide accurate and consistent data collection and display across all the functional boundaries of the ship.
