The oil tanker was escorted by an Iranian Navy ship which was then joined by a US destroyer and a Saudi Arabian frigate.
During early 2009, six warships were sent by the Iranian Navy to international waters including the Gulf of Aden to fight pirate attacks and protect oil tankers.
