The FMC is specifically designed to undergo coastal patrol, surveillance, interdiction, surface strike and naval battle group support for the 21st century.
The vessels will enable the Egyptian Navy to maintain the security of its coastal regions while denying access to areas by any potential adversaries.
Construction work on the vessel will begin by mid 2011 at the company’s US shipyard VT Halter Marine and is expected to be delivered by the end of 2013.
ST Engineering received $642m for the first three FMCs and the new contract brings the total value for the FMC project to approximately $807m.
The 62m-long FMC will incorporate ship signature control technology and several combat system assets and electronic sensors, equipping the vessels with capabilities in anti-aircraft, anti-surface and electronic warfare.
