The Russian Navy has conducted a series of exercises involving simulated nuclear attacks with chemical, biological and radiological (CBR) warfare in the Indian Ocean.

During the exercise, two Russian warships, the Moskva guided-missile cruiser and the Pyotr Veliky nuclear-powered guided-missile cruiser, conducted simulated attacks and rescue missions after a nuclear explosion, according to rianovosti.

The exercise involved a nuclear attack with a yield of about 200kt at a distance of around 15 miles from the warships.

Russian Northern Fleet CBR specialist Alexander Buichikov said both ships were hermetically sealed and completely impervious to nuclear or chemical attack.

The vessels are expected to arrive in Russia’s far eastern port of Vladivostok in June-July to participate in the Vostok-2010 large-scale naval exercise.
