The UK Royal Navy has awarded a contract to Tyco International to install fire fighting systems for the navy’s new Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers.

The £15m ($21.5m) contract awarded by the UK Aircraft Carrier Alliance is part of the £333m ($478.5m) package of the project.

Systems will be manufactured at the company’s facility in Newton Heath and are expected to be complete within four years.

The two aircraft carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince Of Wales, are expected to enter service in 2014 and 2016 respectively.

The aircraft carriers are currently being assembled at shipyards in Rosyth, Scotland.
