General Dynamics Bath Iron Works (BIW) will provide long-lead-time materials to build DDG 1001 and DDG 1002 for the US Navy.

Under the $105.4m contract, the company will also provide engineering, production and support services associated with the construction of the DDG 1001 guided missile destroyer.

BIW president Jeff Geiger said the contract allows them to maintain progress on DDG 1001 start-up and initiate timely procurement of key long-lead material items to support the DDG 1002 construction schedule.

As the prime contractor for the US Navy’s Zumwalt (DDG 1000) Class programme, BIW to construct and deliver three Zumwalt Class guided missile destroyers.

Work under the modification contract is scheduled to be complete by February 2011.
