The aircraft, a modified version of the Boeing 737-700, will be used by the US Navy for troop and cargo transport missions as well as to increase its capability for rapid response worldwide.
The fuel-efficient C-40A will also meet the navy’s requirement for Navy Unique Fleet Essential Airlift accessibility during unforeseen and crisis situations.
The aircraft provides in-theatre medium and heavy airlift and will replace the navy’s fleet of ageing C-9B Skytrain IIs.
Navy Reserve deputy chief rear admiral Bryan Cutchen said: "This new aircraft will help the Navy meet our current challenges today and helps us build a relevant and capable future force."
