The Indian Navy is participating in the multilateral, humanitarian assistance/disaster relief (HA/DR) exercise, dubbed Komodo 2014, which is being held at Indonesia.
Scheduled from 28 March to 3 April, the exercise is being conducted at Batam Bay, Natuna Islands and Anambas Islands.
The exercise involves participants from Indonesia, the US, China, Russia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines and Laos.
With the Indian Navy being represented by Sukanya-class patrol vessel, INS Sukanya, with integral Chetak, the six-day exercise comprises of three phases; the harbour phase, sea phase and civic mission phase.
During the harbour phase, participants will conduct a table top exercise (TTX) on HA/DR, a disaster relief command post exercise, and sports and social interaction.
The Sea Phase Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX) includes cross deck flying/evacuation, lashing, a man overboard exercise (MOBEX), oil leakage control, a platform remnant exercise and a damage control exercise.
In addition, a land and ship medical evacuation exercise (MEDEVAC) and engineering civic action programme (ENCAP) will also be conducted by the participating nations during the civic mission phase, in which personnel from Sukanya will participate.
A total of 19 warships, two planes, four helicopters, two sea and coast guard ships from the Transportation Ministry and one ship from the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas) from Indonesia will also participate in the exercise, according to ANTARA News.
In addition, 14 warships and four helicopters from the foreign countries will take part in the activity.
