The Iranian Navy has received three additional Ghadir-class submarines to further expand its capability to defend territorial waters, Iranian Army’s Navy Commander rear admiral Habibollah Sayyari said.

Fars News Agency has quoted the commander as saying: "All parts of these submarines, including their body and their advanced radar equipment and defence systems, have been designed and manufactured by our country’s defence experts and with the help of the Defence Ministry."
The submarines are designed to cruise within the shallow waters of the Persian Gulf and can fire missiles and torpedoes simultaneously.
The Ghadir-class submarine is equipped with sonar-evading technology and can remain hidden from advanced radars and swift detection and location vessels.
The 29m-long submarine has a displacement capacity of 120t when submerged and can cruise at a maximum speed of 11 knots.
