Under the $7.6m contract, the company will deliver upgrades and spares for the navy’s 46 man transportable robotic system (MTRS) robots, which are based on its multimission iRobot 510 PackBot.
Work under the contract is set to be completed by the second quarter of 2015.
iRobot Defense & Security business unit senior vice-president and general manager Frank Wilson said: "iRobot is pleased to be working with the military to ensure that its MTRS fleet is equipped with the latest in robotic technologies.
"These life-saving robots will remain an important part of our defence forces’ toolkit in the years ahead."
In addition, the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division has also awarded a three-year IDIQ contract to iRobot, the value of which could reach $13m if all options are exercised.
iRobot has supplied more than 5,000 robots to global military and civil defence forces, which assist in executing a range of missions, including explosive ordnance disposal, surveillance and reconnaissance, CBRN detection and HazMat handling operations.
