Under the $21.8m agreement, which follows a four-year indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract received in 2013, Lockheed will be responsible for delivering ELGTRs, logistics support and associated technical data, extending ELGTR production into 2017.
Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control precision-guided systems manager Joe Serra said that the company’s direct-attack training solutions offer improved mission flexibility.
"ELGTR ensures US and allied warfighters remain trained at peak combat proficiency," Serra said.
Using the laser-guided bomb envelope, flight characteristics and guidance system of the paveway II system, ELGTR provides reasonable, high-performance aircrew training while maintaining the tactical laser-guided bomb (LGB) inventory.
It is reportedly the sole sub-calibre live-fire LGB training solution, and can be integrated with the Canadian CF-18, the F/A-18, AV-8B, F-16 and other international aircraft platforms.
In addition, Lockheed also received a $12.5m ELGTR production contract from Public Works and Government Services Canada for the Royal Canadian Air Force, under which ELGTRs will be supplied from 2014.
To date, the company has delivered about 130,000 training rounds, in addition to 70,000 LGB kits and 7,000 dual-mode LGB kits, to the US Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and 20 international clients.
