Conducted at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Quantico, Virginia, US, the demonstration saw the new glasses or ‘optical see-through’ components being fitted to the Augmented Immersive Team Trainer (AITT).
ONR Expeditionary Maneuver Warfare and Combating Terrorism Department programme officer Dr Peter Squire said: "The glasses are leading-edge and are really pushing the technology of optical see-throughs forward.
"But the glasses are just one component of the system. It’s the AITT system itself that’s revolutionary because it enables warfighters to turn any environment into a training ground."
Developed as part of a small business technology transfer programme, the new glasses are claimed to be more technologically advanced that Google glass, and have a much larger field of view.
The AITT programme is scheduled to undergo a final large-scale demonstration at Quantico this autumn, following which it will be put through further testing and development with the Marine Corps Program Manager for Training Systems.
AITT system will reportedly be capable of providing training senarios, which accurately reflect the situations, environments, and people that Marines will face.
ONR Expeditionary Maneuver Warfare and Combating Terrorism Department, Marine Corps major Le Nolan said: "For Marines, this system increases their situational awareness, whether for training or operations, giving them a wider aperture for information to help make better decisions."
