The indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract also includes the supply of related monitoring and communications acoustic systems.
The contract has a ceiling value of $22.2m including options, with the performance period to run until December 2024. The initial contract is valued at around $5.4m.
Teledyne Technologies president and CEO Al Pichelli said: “For more than a decade, Teledyne has been the leading provider of autonomous underwater gliding vehicles to the US Government.
“We are exceptionally pleased now to have received our first significant order from the US Navy for Teledyne’s self-propelled autonomous underwater vehicles.”
According to the US Department of Defence (DoD), the contract includes services and supplies to support the ongoing development of AUVs.
Around 90% of the work will be performed in North Falmouth, Massachusetts, while the remaining work will take place in Keyport, Washington.
The DoD said that the contract was procured as a Small Business Innovation Research Phase III award.
AUVs can be used to perform complex survey missions for commercial, scientific, and defence applications.
Teledyne AUVs features a modular design that allows for easier integration of sensors and exchange of battery packs in the field.
The company’s offerings include self-propelled AUVs, autonomous profiling floats, unmanned surface vehicles, inspection-class remotely operating vehicles (ROVs), and variable-buoyancy autonomous gliding vehicles.
Teledyne’s Gavia AUV is comprised of ‘plug-and-play’ AUV modules. The vehicles are capable of operating from ‘vessels of opportunity’.
Teledyne Instruments is a subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies.
